Paige’s three primary areas of concern for the City of Portsmouth are public safety, our schools and our neighborhoods.

We all want and need safe neighborhoods.  When we call 911, our public safety professionals come running ready to attend to our needs.  Paige wants to take care of the people who take care us.  Many of them work two jobs to provide for their families.  He wants to pay them a wage that will make a second job an option and not a necessity.  Every year many of them leave for higher paying cities.  When we keep our experienced Public Safety Professionals in Portsmouth, our families, our home and our streets will be safer.

Paige is a product of and an advocate for public schools.  His daughter, Phylysha is an honor student at Churchland High School.  His sister Pam Walton is a 28-year veteran of the Portsmouth Public Schools.  She like many other highly experienced school system employees could have left Portsmouth for greener pastures but she did not.  Paige believes we should reward their dedication and loyalty with competitive salaries and first class facilities to teach and train our children.  Paige believes that education is the liberating force of the people.  He believes that through education, we develop political knowledge, advocate participation, and promote citizenship.  He is committed to fully funding our schools and providing the best education possible for our children.

Paige believes we need to pay more attention to all our neighborhoods.  We as a city often get “tunnel vision” and concentrate all our efforts in one section of the city while others deteriorate.  Portsmouth’s coffers are not huge but they are growing.  Paige believes that no matter where you live, Churchland, Olde Towne, Cavalier Manor, Craddock, and Truxton or anywhere else in Portsmouth, every neighborhood should get their piece of the pie.  He believes we must invest in our neighborhoods with strategies that are directly linked to the cities long-range plan for land use, transportation and community facilities.
